The contemporary modern dance course for adults is for anyone who wants to dance. The course allows for the development of various abilities, strengthens the body and the connection to the body, within a professional process with a consistent teacher and within an advancing group. The course content is tailored to the age group.
In the contemporary modern dance course for adults, we will practice movement sequences (combinations), strengthen our movement memory, and learn to bring more freedom and self-expression within the structure of movement sequences. We will experiment with slow and fast movement, learn to generate more energy in the body, and gain more control over what the body can do. We will learn to use our weight, to move with an understanding of skeletal structure rather than muscular effort, gently open up joint flexibility as well as our mental flexibility, and discover new things about our capabilities.
We will work on musicality, strengthen our sense of rhythm, and explore how rhythm drives us. We will use images, music, and emotional connection to explore the wide range of movement within us. We will learn to connect to movement from within (through emotional connection, use of abstract imagery, etc.) or from outside (such as using music, visualizations, and more). We will try to release early thoughts or judgments about our body and movement. Through dance, sweat, expression, and from within the dance, we will learn to better recognize our body, our movement, and ourselves.
